KYPHOSIS VS SCOLIOSIS
Kyphosis (or hyper kyphosis) is a term used to describe excessive slouching or rounding of the spine. Kyphosis can be postural or structural, and can be accompanied by scoliosis. When kyphosis is the primary problem, scoliosis is often mildly expressed.
Postural kyphosis is usually more flexible and can be successfully treated with kyphosis specific physical therapy methods. Physical therapy treatment will include stretching, manual therapy, breathing exercises and specific exercises to strengthen postural muscles.
Physical therapy treatment specific for kyphosis can facilitate major postural transformations. Therapeutic techniques help to stretch spinal ligaments and soft tissues around the spine, lengthen the muscles around shoulder girdle, modify breathing pattern, and establish better postural habits. Improved posture can be stabilized through strengthening program and building self-awareness .
