HOW TREATMENT IS CHOSEN

The choice of treatment method depends on the patient’s age, needs, preferences, and abilities. It is often best to combine several scoliosis specific methods to address all the concerns that are found during initial and consecutive assessments. Therapeutic activities are chosen based on the patient’s diagnosis, age, and ability to follow home program routines.

Children and Adolescents

Children and adolescents with smaller curves (under 25 degrees) are usually treated by scoliosis specific physical therapy only.

Children and adolescents with bigger curves (over 25 degrees) are usually treated by bracing combined with scoliosis specific physical therapy.

HOME PROGRAM

Adherence to home program is the key to successful therapy outcomes. Home program activities need to be chosen wisely and consider the patient’s capabilities and preferences.

Patients are encouraged to follow treatment chart to self -track and mark their work, which helps them with organizational aspect of treatment. It also helps the therapist to identify the areas that require more attention during treatment.
