SEAS METHOD

Scientific Exercises Approach for Scoliosis (SEAS) is the scoliosis specific exercise approach developed by the Italian Scientific Spine Institute (ISICO) that was founded in early 2000.

SEAS exercises are based on the three-dimensional nature of scoliosis and are centered on maintaining active self-correction during functional activities

Active Self Correction is a foundational concept of SEAS exercises. It is specific to each patient and is based on the shape of the spinal curvature and postural pattern. Active Self Correction is taught individually, and often it is introduced in stages with consideration to mastering all aspects of 3 -dimensional nature of the spine.

SEAS exercises are training ability to retain active self-corrections through functional movements and tasks. The exercise activities are performed in sitting, standing and other functional positions. Functional movement patters are simulated through reclining, pulling, pushing, lifting or reaching. Active self-correction can be easily integrated into daily activities and fitness training.

Advantages Of Seas Exercises

  • SEAS exercises are appropriate for all ages, except for very young children who are not yet capable to focus on postural adjustments.

  • SEAS exercises require no or minimal equipment.

  • SEAS exercises can be easily learned.

  • SEAS exercises can be easily integrated into daily living activities, ergonomics and fitness.

Dr Agaronnik completed extensive educational training through ISICO.

  • SEAS 1 and SEAS 2 trainings – completed in 2017 and 2018, taught by Alessandra Negrini and Michele Romano.

  • Scoliosis Master Course (10 months training) – in 2018 Dr Agaronnik completed in depth scoliosis training offered by ISICO and became the first physical therapist in USA who graduated from this training.
